BBC, Stop Instigating Conflicts in Burma

December 14, 2011

ARAKANLAND

New York City, N.Y.- 12/09/2011- Over one hundred fifty of protesters marched on NY’s 6th Ave-1120 Avenue of the America-that is the place where BBC Worldwide America is situated. The demonstrators arrived afternoon at Bryant Park and marched to BBC Worldwide America Office at 3p.m. led by Arakanese community in NYC.

They protested against the Anna Jones’s article “Bleak Outlook for Burma’s ethnic groups” of BBC NEWS ASIA-PACIFIC on November 5, 2010. Unfortunately, BBC drew a map published Arakan that referred to Chittagongnian Bengali (so-called Rohingya) as the ethnic group of Burma. This is absolutely instigated to conflict- between native Arakaneses and illegal migrant Bengali foreigners –in Burma.

The protesters strongly shouted their disapproval as watchwords in front of the BBC Worldwide America office. “Burma, Burma Not for Sale”, “ Arakan, Arakan Not for Sale”, “ Anna Jone, Stop Giving Wrong Information about Burma”, “ BBC, Stop Giving Wrong Information about Arakan”. And they were holding the banners and posters that expressed “BBC and Anna Jones Apologize Now”, “ BBC, STOP Instigating Conflicts in Burma”

Moung Kyaw Htoo Aung, one of the protesters and who had led the demonstration explained the performance. “We’re opposing BBC’s injustice statement.” And “We’re right to assert our intention to BBC.”

On behalf of World Arakanese Organization (WAO) U.S.A., Moung Kyaw Htoo Aung and Moung Zaw Zaw Tun sent a letter “Request to Stand for the Truth” to Lord Chris Patten, Chairman of BBC Trust.

During the successful demonstration, New York City Police took the responsibility of security and the people who walked and crossed the street were interested on walk-out. All protesters (Burmese, Mon, Kachin, Karan, Chin and Arakanese) were real indigenous people of Burma and participating as strong stand. The peace rally achieved at 4:45 p.m. East Standard Time.

When the social media campaign has launched on face book, Myanmar community in London (11/16/11) and Arakanese community in Malaysia (11/24/11) were making the protest an Anna Jones and BBC must be apologized for their unprincipled creation.
